Related to why I'm so skeptical about the "No Kings" movement. They seem to believe if only Trump were gone, Dem paradise would return. Presumably the idea is first to get rid of the Rs and then figure out what else. But why should we of the working class majority trust the Ivy D elite?

Decades ago they went neolib, dumping the New Deal and abandoning labor. They gave no attention to the suffering of the Rust Belt and the deaths of despair. After '08, they bailed out Wall St. while the millions of us who lost jobs, pensions, homes got nothing. Then adding insult to injury, denigrated us as a "basket of deplorables."

Now that MDs and university professors are being treated like assembly line workers, I say welcome to our reality. That blue collar sacrificial lamb turned to be a bellwether.

A minor objection to the use of "Ivory Tower." As long as I have been in academia, the phrase has been meant as "out of touch" and disengaged from the real world. We know that much of the academic world is highly engaged in the issues of today and the phrase is dismissive of the active role academics play in the world.
